The Staten Island Foundation
The Staten Island Foundation's mission is to improve the quality of life on Staten Island, particularly for the least advantaged, with a focus on improving education, health and human services, and the arts. The Staten Island Foundation was established in December 1997 by the former Staten Island Savings Bank with a one-time donation of shares when it converted to a public company. Foundation support has since enabled a varied and wide-ranging array of projects through hundreds of organizations serving all ages, races and income levels. The Foundation has contributed to local projects of national significance as readily as it has contributed to schools, faith based groups, community centers, and community programs serving physically disabled, developmentally disabled, abandoned, abused, neglected, poor and homeless. The biennial reports detail the range of faiths, cultures, age and ethnic groups served. Our recent initiatives have an emphasis on education and literacy as well as an outcomes focus. Click here for the giving Guidelines and Limitations of The Staten Island Foundation. To date, total giving exceeds $36 million in response to requests from over 750 different organizations. Seeing the effective use of funding is a priority. The Foundation will be committed to funding groups with clear objectives and well-prepared plans to achieve those objectives particularly in service to the least advantaged. Potential applicants must call or write the Foundation Office to discuss your project and/or request before completing the Grant Application Package.
